Security is one of the cornerstones of our commitment to the principles of Responsible Care and an important focus for our company. As a company whose R&D and manufacturing operations require the handling of hazardous materials and the use of valuable equipment, we recognize the importance of assuring the security of our facilities, our employees and neighboring communities.
Our security policy is based on implementation of all related Israeli and international laws and regulations. Security operations are performed in full cooperation with local security forces in our areas of operation. Beginning in 2008, we broadened security activities at our Israeli plants and security issues are now routinely examined at our plants worldwide as part of our periodic internal controls.
We have implemented a variety of procedures and activities to prepare ourselves for emergencies such as earthquakes and security related incidents. For example, we have initiated implementation of an earthquake standard to reinforce buildings at our plants, to help protect our employees, facilities and nearby communities from a disaster scenario.
In 2010 we established a search and rescue unit at ICL Fertilizers’ Dead Sea Works, Israel’s only rescue unit that operates from an industrial plant. The unit was established on the assumption that in the event of an earthquake in Israel, the Dead Sea area may be cut off from the rest of the country and that our own employees will have to take part in major rescue efforts. Today, the unit includes 65 employees and holds an annual emergency drill for earthquake preparedness at all of its plants.
