Reducing Our Corporate Carbon Footprint: A Commitment to Climate Action

Our Mission

ICL is committed to reducing its corporate carbon footprint and playing a leadership role in addressing climate change.
Through strategic investments in decarbonization technologies and sustainability-driven innovation, we are significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions across our global operations, supply chains, and markets. With a bold vision for Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050, we are leveraging over a century of expertise to pioneer groundbreaking solutions that align with global climate goals.

How we do it

The urgent need to reduce our corporate carbon footprint is driving a transformation across ICL’s operations. Employees at every level are embracing this shift, which is reshaping our energy policy, production processes, and value chains.

Our transition to decarbonization and clean energy is not only mitigating environmental impact but also unlocking new opportunities, including circular economy initiatives and enhanced energy efficiency at ICL’s largest production plants. ICL aligns its climate change strategies with international frameworks, ensuring that our commitments translate into measurable action.

Science-Based Climate Targets and the Decarbonization Roadmap

Science-Based Climate Targets and the Decarbonization Roadmap
ICL is implementing an ambitious decarbonization roadmap, aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to below 2°C—and ideally to 1.5°C—above pre-industrial levels.

  • In 2023, ICL submitted a declaration to the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) to ensure rigorous, externally validated emission reduction targets.
  • ICL is committed to a 30% reduction in GHG emissions (Scope 1 & 2) by 2030, using 2018 as the baseline year.

ICL’s approach to reducing greenhouse gas emissions is built on three key pillars:

Sustainability & Innovation

Investing in renewable energy and sustainable solutions.

Operational Efficiency

Implementing smart factories, AI-driven optimizations, and IoT-enabled energy management.

Responsible Energy Use

Expanding clean energy infrastructure, including hybrid green grids such as the Green Sdom project, which combines solar power and energy storage to power major production sites.

Scope 3 Emissions

Extending Our Climate Commitments Beyond Our Operations

Beyond Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, ICL is actively addressing Scope 3 emissions, which account for indirect emissions across the value chain. A major priority is reducing emissions from fertilizer use, which represents between 50-80% of ICL’s Scope 3 footprint.

ICL’s Research and Development efforts in Controlled-Release Fertilizers (CRF) and Water-Soluble Fertilizers (WSF)are minimizing the carbon footprint of fertilizers in the field, directly contributing to more sustainable agriculture.

Governance, Management, and Transparency: A Data-Driven Approach Achieving ICL’s corporate carbon footprint targets—30% GHG emissions reduction by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050—requires strong governance, robust management systems, and full transparency.

To ensure credibility and accountability, ICL follows internationally recognized GHG accounting standards, including:

ISO 14064

A rigorous methodology for precisely measuring carbon footprint reductions.

GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance

Providing transparency in reporting Scope 2 emissions.

GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and
Reporting Standard

A global standard for tracking greenhouse gas emissions.

Scope 3 emissions are independently audited by ERM Certification and Verification Services Limited (CVS) to validate emission reductions across the supply chain.

Beyond Carbon Reduction

Pioneering Circular Economy and Green Hydrogen

ICL views decarbonization not just as a necessity but as an opportunity to transform its business model. Through locally generated green energy and green hydrogen initiatives, ICL is working towards energy self-sufficiency. Additionally, ICL is advancing circular economy models, such as phosphate recycling, to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the agricultural sector.

Leading the Way in Corporate Decarbonization

ICL is committed to reducing its corporate carbon footprint through innovation, responsible energy management, and industry-leading sustainability initiatives. Our climate change strategies go beyond compliance—they are holistic, forward-thinking, and built for long-term impact.

By prioritizing transparency, scientific accountability, and ambitious emissions targets, ICL is not only transforming its own operations but also setting a new standard for corporate decarbonization.
